Apple’s fall 2026 lineup is shaping up to be one of the most interesting in years. Alongside the usual iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple is widely expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone, possibly called the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. The base iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are reportedly pushed to spring 2027, which means September 2026 will be all about the premium models.

iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max #
The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to keep the same 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes as the iPhone 17 Pro. According to MacRumors, leaker Digital Chat Station claims both models will feature under-screen Face ID, removing the pill-shaped cutout and allowing a smaller Dynamic Island. However, other reports suggest under-display Face ID may not be ready yet and that the Dynamic Island will simply shrink instead.
Design changes appear modest. MacRumors lists five rumored tweaks:
- A slightly thicker body, possibly to accommodate a larger battery and new cooling system.
- A bigger camera plateau to make room for a new variable aperture lens.
- A more uniform rear colour, moving away from the iPhone 17 Pro’s two-tone look.
- A more reflective Apple logo.
- A smaller Dynamic Island.
Colour options are tipped to include Light Blue, Dark Cherry, Dark Gray, and Silver, with Dark Cherry expected to be the headline new shade. The body will reportedly use anodized aluminium again, and some dummy models suggest the camera plateau could be around 2mm thicker on the Pro Max.
Internally, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to debut Apple’s first 2-nanometer chip, the A20 Pro, along with the company’s C2 modem, 5G via satellite, and LTPO+ displays. Pricing rumours point to a possible increase, with some reports suggesting the Pro models could cost up to $200 more than their predecessors.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone is the bigger story. MacRumors says it will feature a book-style design with a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner display, giving it a 4:3 aspect ratio similar to an iPad. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has described it as “the most significant overhaul in the iPhone’s history.”
Key specs from the roundup include:
- Display: ~5.5 inches closed, ~7.8 inches open. Leakers suggest the inner display could measure 7.76 inches at 2,713 x 1,920 resolution, with a 5.49-inch outer display at 2,088 x 1,422 resolution.
- Thickness: As thin as 4.5mm when open, and 9mm to 9.5mm closed. If accurate, it would be Apple’s thinnest device ever, beating the 5.1mm iPad Pro.
- Crease: Apple reportedly pursued a “nearly invisible” crease, using a new material property and ultra-thin glass. Crease depth is said to be under 0.15mm.
- Hinge: Liquid metal or a titanium-stainless steel mix for durability.
- Cameras: Dual rear cameras (Main and Ultra Wide), both 48MP, with no Telephoto lens due to space constraints. The outer display may have a hole-punch camera, while the inner display could use an under-display camera at 24MP, an industry first.
- Biometrics: Touch ID in the power button instead of Face ID, likely to save space.
- Frame: Titanium and aluminium mix for strength and heat dissipation.
Pricing is expected to start above $2,000, making it the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold. Launch timing is still debated; most reports say September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, but some suggest an October release due to manufacturing complexity.
Jon Prosser’s Front Page Tech video “The iPhone Fold is coming.” presents renders and design details that align closely with the MacRumors reporting: a short, wide book-style foldable that opens into an iPad mini-sized display. The video suggests Apple is going for a device that feels like an iPhone when closed and a compact iPad when open.
What to expect at launch #
If the rumours hold, Apple’s September 2026 event will focus on two products: the refined iPhone 18 Pro series and the ambitious iPhone Fold. The iPhone 18 Pro will offer iterative upgrades in camera, battery, and chip performance, while the iPhone Fold will represent Apple’s answer to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, but with a wider, more tablet-like form factor and an emphasis on hiding the crease.
All of this remains unofficial until Apple announces the devices. Supply chain leaks, dummy models, and analyst reports have been consistent, but Apple has delayed or cancelled rumoured products before. We will know for sure in about two months.
