One of the main criticisms against the YSR Congress Party has been its frequent verbal attacks on women. During Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure as Chief Minister, several YCP leaders often made derogatory remarks about Nara Bhuvaneswari, who is not even involved in politics. This attitude towards women backfired badly, as the public strongly rejected YCP’s approach in the recent election.
However, despite this public backlash, some YCP leaders still appear unwilling to change their behavior. The latest example is a shocking statement made by former YCP MLA Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy.
While speaking at a public meeting yesterday, the YCP leader made deeply offensive remarks about his local TDP counterpart, Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy. She is the wife of Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, a former YCP leader known for his financial strength.
Prasanna accused Prashanthi Reddy of trapping her husband. He said, “This Prashanthi Reddy utterly trapped Prabhakar Reddy. She blackmailed and threatened him before marriage. She laid a perfect trap and consumed him in the name of marriage. He sadly fell into the deep well dug by Prashanthi.”
These highly regressive and inappropriate comments drew immediate backlash from the public. In a strong act of protest, local women reportedly stormed Prasanna’s residence and damaged his property.
This strong public reaction is a clear message that Prasanna Kumar Reddy crossed all limits by making such personal and disrespectful comments against a woman. What makes it even worse is that Prashanthi Reddy was herself a member of the YSR Congress until before the 2024 election.
The key point to note here is that YCP continues to be criticized for its negative stance towards women. Yet, despite repeated warnings from the public, some of its leaders show no signs of change or reform.
