The YSR Congress Party has often faced criticism from political opponents who accuse it of encouraging violent political tactics. These allegations intensified during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s rule between 2019 and 2024, especially following attacks on opposition party members.

Some critics even link the party’s image to the murder case of YS Vivekananda Reddy, where an axe was reportedly used. This particular case has continued to follow the party in political debates.

In a surprising development, Shiva Kumar, the founding member of the YSR Congress Party, has written a letter to the Election Commission requesting a change in the party’s election symbol. He asked for the current fan symbol to be replaced with an axe symbol.

Shiva Kumar was the original owner of the party title before Jagan took over and registered the party in his name. In his letter, he stated that after careful internal consideration, he believes the axe would be a more suitable symbol for the party.

This letter has now gone viral on social media, sparking renewed debate. Many people have noted the irony, given the long-standing allegations connecting the party to the Viveka murder case, where an axe is said to have been the key weapon.

Because of these connections, political critics have often associated the party with the axe. Now, the fact that its own founding member has requested the axe as the official symbol has raised eyebrows and added a fresh twist to the party’s ongoing image issues.
