YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced that he will hit the streets from June 4th as part of a protest named ‘Vennupotu’. He said his party will organize statewide protests, rallies at collector offices to raise their voice against the present NDA government.
Although Jagan has made similar announcements before, he did not step out and lead the protests. But this time, he says he will definitely be among the people and personally take part in the agitation to put pressure on Chandrababu Naidu’s government.
Interestingly, this protest is being planned just a few days before the state government is set to launch key welfare programs. From June 12, the government is preparing to roll out schemes like ‘Thalliki Vandhanam’, a benefit for mothers, and in another programme to provide input subsidies for farmers. These programs were already announced and are ready to be implemented. Lists of eligible beneficiaries are being prepared, and the Chief Minister himself said these schemes will start when schools reopen.
Jagan’s decision to protest before these launches is raising eyebrows. Political observers feel that by protesting in advance, Jagan wants to take credit for the schemes. If the government starts implementing the welfare programs, Jagan’s party can claim it was due to their pressure and agitation. This could help him win public sympathy and political mileage.
