The highly problematic liquor policy and even the poor quality of liquor products during the YCP regime were among the key factors behind the party’s historic downfall in the 2024 election. The magnitude of the liquor scam was so massive that the Enforcement Directorate became involved to trace the money trails and uncover the crucial facts.
It has been widely established that the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam was one of the biggest such operations in India. Several YSR Congress leaders, including Midhun Reddy, Raj Kasireddy, and a few other officials, were already jailed in connection with it.
Adding to this, medical data revealed that the number of deaths linked to liquor consumption was alarmingly high during the YCP tenure.
Despite all this data and ongoing investigations pointing toward Jagan in connection with the controversial liquor scam, the former Chief Minister continues to deny any responsibility. Instead, he is blaming the NDA government for the recent incidents of contaminated liquor.
While the current government has already taken corrective measures against the individuals responsible for the contaminated liquor deaths, Jagan seems to be using the issue for political mileage.
Neutral observers note that as an opposition leader, Jagan has every right to raise concerns about such incidents. However, the irony lies in the fact that the very same Jagan, whose own liquor policy led to an unprecedented decline in liquor quality, is now speaking out about the same issue.
