Veteran Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao has today drawn attention to a rising culture in the city. According to him, a new wave of live-in relationships is gaining ground in areas like Madhapur, Kondapur, Gachibowli, and other IT zones. But this is no ordinary lifestyle choice. He says it is turning into a reckless and damaging trend that could affect the city’s image.
Live-in relationships are not new. But what Rao pointed out is how the concept has been commercialized. Builders and property owners are converting hostels, guest houses, and apartments into co-living spaces. These places are made ready for couples to stay together without any formal commitment or social structure. It is being sold as a modern convenience.
For many working professionals in the city, this setup seems easy and stress-free. A place to stay, privacy, and no questions asked. But Rao believes this is breaking down the basic structure of relationships and values. He feels the new culture is turning serious matters into casual choices.
He urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to act quickly. He warned that if not controlled, this new lifestyle could damage the image of Hyderabad in the long run. What surprised many was how Rao, despite his age and limited public appearances, noticed this change and spoke strongly against it.
His comments have sparked debate. Some see it as old-fashioned thinking, while others feel he may have a point. As lifestyles change fast, society must ask whether it is ready to face the long-term effects of such trends.
