As we had reported earlier, the new tariffs imposed by the United States is going to directly affect the aqua exports mechanism based in the Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh. In this context, chief minister, Chandrababu has written a letter to the centre asking for its intervention on this matter.
Chandrababu Naidu has written to Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, urging intervention to protect the state’s aquaculture sector from losses due to high U.S. tariffs. He highlighted that the 27% duty imposed by the U.S. is hurting exports, leading to canceled orders and storage issues in cold chains across AP.
Stressing the importance of fisheries to the state’s GDP, he requested the Centre to negotiate with the U.S. for exemption of Indian aqua products. He emphasized that aqua farmers are in distress and need immediate support during this challenging period to sustain their livelihoods.
Considering the fact that aqua exports from the predominant financial system in the Godavari region and also the impact of aqua farming in the state, Babu took the occasion to highlight the issue to the center.
