The Indian Army continues to take strong action against Pakistan’s hostile operations in border regions, striking air defence posts and terror locations. However, some social media platforms are going too far with unverified and dramatic coverage.
Last night, several verified accounts went into overdrive, suggesting that India had formally declared war on Pakistan, citing multiple attacks. In reality, no significant movement or official declaration was made by Indian defence forces.
In response to these misleading reports, the Ministry of Defence has officially urged media outlets and social media users to refrain from live coverage or unverified updates regarding military operations. The ministry warned that sharing such information could compromise ongoing missions and endanger lives.
All media channels, digital platforms and individuals are advised to refrain from live coverage or real-time reporting of defence operations and movement of security forces. The statement reminded the public of past tragedies like the Kargil War, 26/11 Mumbai Attacks, and the Kandahar hijacking, where premature or irresponsible reporting posed serious security risks.
As per Clause 6(1)(p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, only authorized, periodic briefings by designated officials are allowed during anti-terror or defence operations. Any real-time coverage of military actions is strictly prohibited.
The Defence Ministry emphasized that national security must come first, and all platforms—media or individual—must act responsibly in such sensitive times.
