The death of multiple devotees in the wall collapse at Simhachalam temple triggered a political controversy with the TDP leaders blaming the YCP for the tragedy. Sources said that the officials identified the wall built during the YCP rule, leading to the death of eight people, lacked strength. Many more are feared to be trapped under the debris.
Though built recently, in 2021-22 under the Prasadam scheme with funds sanctioned by the central government, the flyash bricks used in the construction were not bound with cement in between. On information about the collapse, home minister Anitha rushed to the place and oversaw the relief works taken up by the NDRF. Officials identified that the wall came down crumbling as the construction lacked quality.
Following the flash rains on Tuesday, the wall at the Rs 300 ticket counter got soaked and collapsed on the devotees standing in the queue nearby. Following the allegations of sub-standard works leading to the mishap, minister Anitha said a probe would be launched into the incident.
Eight devotees including three women died and 10 others suffered serious injuries in the temple tragedy.
