The stage is all set for the grand relaunch of the Amaravati capital works in the Andhra Pradesh capital region tomorrow. With Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to grace this historic event as the chief guest, the entire state is eagerly waiting to see what the PM will offer to the new capital this time around.
Meanwhile, just a day before PM Modi’s arrival to Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President YS Sharmila staged a protest and strongly criticized the Prime Minister in a social media post regarding the construction of Amaravati and the implementation of the promises made during the state bifurcation over a decade ago. Sharmila said she will send Amaravati soil as a gift to remind PM Modi of the promises he made 10 years ago.
“Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will you help us in the construction of Amaravati at least this time? Or will you again gift us just the soil like last time?” Sharmila wrote in her post. She reminded how Modi brought soil during the Amaravati foundation stone-laying ceremony in 2015 and threw that soil into the mouths of Andhra people and dashed their hopes.
Sharmila went on to demand a written assurance from Modi that the people of Andhra Pradesh would not be betrayed once again. She stated that capital construction is the sole responsibility of the union government as per the AP Reorganization Act. She also demanded that the PM to release Rs 1.50 lakh crore within 3 years for Amaravati construction.
Sharmila also highlighted the need to grant legal status to Amaravati as the capital. She went on to appeal to Modi to assert the people of Andhra of the state bifurcation promises that have remained unfulfilled over the past 10 years.
