In a shocking move that’s drawing global outrage, Pakistan may end up paying ₹14 crore to one of the world’s most wanted terrorists, Masood Azhar. Following India’s precision airstrike under Operation Sindoor on May 7, which targeted Jaish-e-Mohammed terror hubs in Bahawalpur, 14 of Azhar’s family members were reportedly killed. Now, with no other legal heirs, all ₹1 crore compensations per each dead, ₹14 crore in total could go directly to Azhar himself.
The move has been widely condemned as a backdoor payout to a UN-designated terrorist. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s announcement to offer ₹1 crore per deceased family member has raised serious concerns about Pakistan’s continued support for terror networks. The location of the strike, Bahawalpur, is home to Jaish-e-Mohammed’s headquarters.
India launched the airstrike in retaliation to continued cross-border terror attacks targeting innocent civilians, especially Hindus. Over 100 terrorists were reportedly eliminated in the operation. Intelligence sources confirmed that the targets were active members of terror outfits, with direct links to Masood Azhar.
The decision to compensate their families is now being seen as a political and diplomatic stunt by Pakistan. Critics argue that this simply exposes Pakistan’s long-standing practice of sheltering and funding terrorists.
India has firmly maintained that any attack on its citizens will be met with decisive military action. And as Pakistan continues to make such controversial decisions, global pressure is mounting for it to stop aiding internationally sanctioned terror leaders.
