Nellore district is quietly emerging to be one of the major focus areas for the Andhra Pradesh government under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu. With a series of new project announcements and policy decisions, the state is placing Nellore at the centre of its new development roadmap aligning its objectives with the East Coast development decisions.
The government recently approved the allotment of 2,776 acres of land to IFFCO Kisan SEZ Ltd in SPSR Nellore district. This ₹870 crore investment is expected to boost industrial growth and provide thousands of jobs. Alongside this, the government has cleared the Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport project, with international tenders already being floated. Covering 582.5 acres, the airport will initially handle 1.4 million passengers per year and is planned to expand to 9.5 million, strengthening Nellore’s connectivity. This would play a major role not by just connectivity but by strategically putting an airport on Visakhapatnam – Vijayawada – Chennai Industrial corridor too.
Chief Minister Naidu’s focus on infrastructure is also clear as in the BPCL Greenfield Refinery project at Ramayapatnam Port, which is being closely monitored by a 16-member Project Implementation Unit to ensure speedy progress. On the real estate front, projects like DSR Infra’s 30-storey residential tower are transforming Nellore, which is set to become the first high rise building in the region and highlighted to give a modern look to the city. While government is also planning to build satellite themed townships for affordable housing in the city and across the district.
In addition, the government is preparing to launch a new Aerospace and Defence Policy, targeting ₹30,000 crore in investments across four nodes, with Nellore-Donakonda included as a key location. This will bring high-value industries and advanced jobs to the district while the district already hosts the Government owned ISRO at Sriharikota. By focusing on industries, airports, industrial corridor growth, ports, housing and defence projects, the Naidu-led government is making Nellore a vital growth engine for Andhra Pradesh.
These initiatives show how Nellore is not just growing on its own but is being actively shaped by strong government planning and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s vision for a modern, developed not just around one district or city but across all the corners of the Andhra Pradesh.
