It is a known fact that Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan shares a strong rapport with the central government. In fact, he is very close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who fondly refers to him as “Aandhi” (Toofan).
The encouraging part is that Pawan Kalyan is using this proximity with the Centre effectively — not for personal benefit, but for the betterment of Andhra Pradesh as a state.
In a related development, it has now been confirmed that the central government has given principal approval for the construction of a protective wall along the coast of Uppada Reach in Pithapuram.
Before the election, Kalyan addressed a public gathering in Uppada, where he revealed that nearly 350 acres of land have been lost over the last hundred years due to beach erosion. He firmly promised to resolve the issue by constructing boulders and retaining walls along the Uppada coast once the NDA came to power.
Now, Pawan Kalyan is walking the talk, having successfully convinced the central government to allocate adequate funds for the construction of the boulder wall. This project is estimated to cost around ₹323 crore and is expected to provide a permanent solution to the recurring coastal erosion in the area.
It is commendable to see the Deputy Chief Minister maintaining strong ties with the Centre and quietly getting things done for Andhra Pradesh, as he works to resolve a century-old problem in Pithapuram.
