BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruti President Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who has been making headlines for various reasons for the past few weeks, has become a hot topic once again. During a protest at the Bus Bhavan in Hyderabad against the hike in bus pass fares by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), Kavitha invoked Telangana regional feeling. At press meet, Kavitha suggested that from now on, whenever everyone answers a call, instead of saying “Hi” or “Hello,” we should say “Jai Telangana!”

Addressing the media, Kavitha said, that mixed responses from Telangana and Andhra people. While a section of netizens supported Kavitha’s call for invoking Telangana sentiment among the people on the state, many locals mocked her, saying, “You suddenly remembered the Jai Telangana slogan after almost 10 years.”

In 2014, the year that will forever remain etched in the history of Telangana, the then TRS party, led by Kavitha’s father and former Telangana chief minister KCR, was instrumental in realising the decades-old dream of a separate statehood. While KCR became the chief minister of the newly formed Telangana, Kavitha was elected as the MP.

Kavitha’s latest statement on the Telangana sentiment only proves that the BRS party leaders are once again banking heavily on the Telangana sentiment to counter Revanth Reddy’s Congress party in the upcoming general elections. Whether or not this latest move will work in BRS’ favour will be known in the coming days.
