The tragic incident at Simhachalam Temple, where a wall collapse during the Sandalwood festival led to the death of seven devotees and injuries to others, has shocked Andhra Pradesh. The accident occurred after midnight on Tuesday. As soon as the news broke, AP Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha responded quickly. She reached the spot by 3 AM on Wednesday, reviewed the situation, and stood by the victims and their families. She ensured that the injured were taken to the hospital and consoled the families of the deceased, staying active and involved without a moment of rest. She also answered the media’s questions patiently.

As the Home Minister, Anitha immediately alerted the police and SDRF officials. Instead of waiting until morning like most, she rushed to the site without any delay. Her prompt response was widely appreciated. By evening, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan released a statement praising her efforts. He said that her commitment reflects the confidence and assurance their alliance government provides to the people.

Pawan commended Anitha for her proactive role in crisis situations and for standing by those in distress. He said that that public representatives should not only act promptly but also offer emotional support to grieving families—something Anitha is doing commendably. He recalled how she reached the spot by 3 AM and reviewed the situation immediately. He also noted how she supported the family of Chandramouli during the Pahalgam incident. According to Pawan, Anitha’s work is a true example of how their government takes responsibility for the people.

Few months ago, Pawan Kalyan publicly criticised HM over the state’s deteriorating law and order situation, particularly concerning rising crimes against women. At a public meeting in Pithapuram, Kalyan expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of such issues and warned that if the situation didn’t improve, he might have to take over the Home Ministry himself.

In response, Anitha took Kalyan’s comments positively, stating that his remarks encouraged her to be more assertive in her role. She acknowledged the challenges and emphasised her commitment to strengthening law enforcement and ensuring public safety. Anitha also highlighted the government’s efforts to address crimes against women and maintain law and order in the state .

This exchange between the Deputy Chief Minister and the Home Minister underscored the coalition government’s internal understandings and the shared commitment to improving governance and public safety in Andhra Pradesh.
