At Yesterday’s Auto Driverala Sevalo Scheme launch, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced that along with providing the financial assistance of Rs. 15000 to auto drivers through a direct benefit transfer to 2.9 lakhs beneficiaries including the Cabs and Max-cab operators and set up an auto drivers welfare board too. It is to be noted that this 15000 is higher than Rs.10000 that was provided during Jagan tenure under YSR Vahan Mitra.
The Government is also planning to come up with a new digital app to help auto-rickshaw drivers and passengers. Much like Uber or Ola, this state-run platform will allow commuters to book autos directly from their phones, while helping drivers get more rides without depending on middlemen.
Officials said that more than two lakh registered auto drivers will be brought into this system. The app will make it easy for drivers to manage bookings, calculate fares, and even receive payments digitally. For passengers, it means safer rides, fixed rates and a more reliable option for last-mile travel.
This move is part of the government’s larger plan to improve both transport and livelihoods. Other states like Karnataka and Telangana have already launched similar apps, which have helped drivers earn better and given passengers more accountability. Andhra Pradesh now wants to follow the same path, but with its own model.
The app will first be tested in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada before being rolled out across the state. The target launch year is 2026. Officials also plan to link the app with existing government transport schemes, making it part of a bigger mobility network.
Experts feel this project could be a game-changer. Not only will drivers get more income and better working conditions, but the government will also gain access to real-time travel data. This can help in planning better city transport in the future.
For thousands of auto drivers in Andhra Pradesh, this digital step promises dignity, steady income, and a chance to keep up with modern times while giving the public a convenient way to book a trusted ride.
