One of the principal allegations made by the opposition parties against the then YSR Congress government in Andhra Pradesh was the uncontrollable drug peddling activities. In this context, the Telugu Desam party promised to bring the situation under control once they from the government.

Now that the NDA government is at the helm, we are starting to see corrective measures against the drug peddling and dealing activities in the state. In fact, the government has brought a new regulation against drug dealers and related activities.

The government has introduced a new NDPS law that puts drug dealers and repeat offenders under the law. Under this new regulation, repeat offenders in drug dealing activities will be adjudicated to 1 year jail time.

Back in the day, the law and enforcement against drug trafficking wasn’t substantial enough. Those who were getting arrested in peddling cases were also released shortly after.

However, that will no longer be the case henceforth. The AP government will henceforth file a case against them under the PIT NDPS Act and sentence them to one year in prison. This is a serious measure that is being taken against drug trafficking and subsequent curbing of this antisocial culture.

Even the general consensus after the formation of the NDA government is that drug consumption and procurement have largely gone down in this new government’s tenure. But it is good that the government is still on the toes and enforcing stricter regulations to stem down this trafficking issue further.
