Kamareddy has been one of the worst-hit regions in the recent Telangana floods, with entire colonies submerged, highways cut off, and people forced to climb to second and third floors of their houses to save their lives. Families lost valuable belongings, electronic goods, and important documents in the water, leaving them devastated and demanding urgent government support.
But instead of offering sympathy, local MLA Venkata Ramana Reddy stirred controversy with his remarks. He suggested that the massive losses were due to the “overconfidence” of the people, saying they should have been more alert and shifted their valuables in time. According to him, since the water entered gradually and not suddenly, the damage could have been avoided if residents had taken precautions.
These comments have triggered a storm on social media, with many accusing the MLA of blaming victims who are already suffering. Citizens expressed anger, saying his words felt like “rubbing salt on wounds” at a time when people expected help and compassion from their elected representative.
