The history between former CBI Joint Director Lakshmi Narayana and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is far from ordinary. It is well known that Lakshmi Narayana was the officer who led the investigation and had Jagan arrested in the disproportionate assets case during his tenure at the CBI.
However, after entering politics, Lakshmi Narayana has seemingly made several efforts to get into Jagan’s good books. Notably, he was among the few political analysts who supported Jagan’s governance, even when public sentiment was largely against him ahead of the 2024 election.
There were even reports suggesting that Lakshmi Narayana attempted to secure the Visakhapatnam MP ticket on behalf of the YSRCP just before the polls. But this did not materialize, possibly because Jagan, known for his strong-headed nature, did not consider it appropriate to offer a ticket to the very person who once had him arrested.
That, however, hasn’t stopped Lakshmi Narayana from continuing to flatter Jagan. In a recent statement, he called Jagan one of the most statesman-like Chief Ministers Andhra Pradesh has seen. He praised Jagan for developing government hospitals, ports, and other key infrastructure.
Then came a rather bizarre statement from the former CBI officer. He claimed that the only reason Jagan lost the 2024 election was due to the negative narrative spread by the opposition regarding land titling, accusing Jagan of grabbing public lands.
Following this remark, many have sarcastically commented that Lakshmi Narayana still appears desperate to join Jagan’s YSRCP, especially after the failure of his own political efforts in the 2024 elections.
