During the 2024 Andhra Pradesh elections, YS Jagan Reddy pushed two aggressive slogans “Why Not 175” and “Why Not Kuppam.” His aim was to win all 175 Assembly seats, including Kuppam, the stronghold of Chandrababu Naidu.
But after that big talk, YSR Congress suffered a historic downfall. The party is now in a miserable state with very little to hold on to. Jagan’s challenge to capture Kuppam backfired badly, and today the very survival of his party is in question.
Chandrababu, on the other hand, is ending this political game in style. From a major defeat in 2019, TDP bounced back in 2024, returning to power with Janasena and BJP as part of the NDA alliance. One of the alliance’s sweetest victories was sweeping the Kadapa region, which had always been the YS family’s turf.
Now the situation has become even worse for YSR Congress. Jagan’s hometown of Pulivendula has also slipped away. In the ZPTC elections whose counting ended today, TDP won the Pulivendula seat for the first time in decades, a huge symbolic blow to Jagan’s image.
The irony is striking. Jagan once dreamed of taking Kuppam from Chandrababu, but the tables have turned so badly that he has lost his own rural leadership seat in Pulivendula. To make it worse, the YSR Congress candidate could not even save their deposit in this election.
