After the horrifying defeat in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh election, former chief minister YS Jagan has been extremely reluctant to set foot in the Assembly. He has been finding new reasons to avoid the assembly with the main citation being the fact that he isn’t given the opposition leader status.

However, a few YCP MLAs reportedly approached Jagan yesterday and discussed the prospect of coming to the Assembly, and here is what he had to say.

According to reports, Jagan stated that he is ready to come to the Assembly if the speaker promises adequate time for him to speak. “Even if they don’t give me apposition leader status, I am ready to come to Assembly if they give me enough time to speak. It took me an hour to give a media presentation on public problems. I want as much time in the Assembly as well. If the speaker promises adequate time, I will come to the Assembly from tomorrow itself.”

It must be noted that chief minister Chandrababu had been advising Jagan to come to Assembly, and even suggesting he would be given adequate prominence to raise his points. However, Jagan has been strategically avoiding the sessions and confining his questioning to media conferences.

When asked about the prospect of at least sending other YCP MLAs to the assembly, Jagan said he is not stopping anyone. “If Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy Anna takes the responsibility and accompanies our MLAs, then they’re free to go to the assembly.” Jagan reportedly said. But the hard fact here is that Ramchandra Reddy himself is reportedly not interested in the sessions.
