One of the crucial narratives carried by previous chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan was the “Why Not 175” notion. He used this narrative extensively to showcase his confidence as he felt his YCP would win all 175 assembly seats.

In the end, Jagan and his party got humbled as they got relegated to just 11 seats out of the 175 assembly seats. The narrative carried by Jagan turned out to be a humiliating one, and it’s still continues to haunt him even to this day.

Incidentally, something similar is being observed with the current chief minister Chandrababu Naidu as well. At the Mahanadu event that happened in Kadapa, the chief minister confidently said TDP must sweep 10/10 seats in Kadapa next term.

This primarily stems from the fact that TDP led NDA miraculously win 7 out of 10 assembly seats in Kadapa segment in the recent 2024 election. This re-energised the party, supporters, and workers locally, and eventually even related to the Mahanadu event being held here.

The fact that TDP picked Kadapa as the venue for the Mahanadu event itself shows that this segment is being taken very seriously by the party. The idea could be to break the back of YCP as Kadapa has historically been with YS family and claiming this segment could largely boost TDP.

But, the primary point here is that defeating Jagan in Pulivendula is as hard as it can get. The YS family has not tested defeat in this segment for many decades.

Also, it can be noted that Jagan’s YCP could hold its own in the Kadapa segment despite being humbled by 3 seats. When we compare this to the fact that the party did not even open its account in many districts, the result in Kadapa is a lifeline for them, albeit at a negligible capacity.

So while Chandrababu might be looking to energise his party cadre further in Kadapa by calling for 10/10 seats here, this narrative can also backfire, similar to Why Not 175 narrative of Jagan.
