Former AP CM YS Jagan has once again stirred controversy with his harsh remarks against the state police department. Speaking at a pressmeet today, Jagan made sensational allegations, calling DIG-level officers in the state “mafia dons” and accusing them of running corruption networks under the current government.
Jagan claimed that DIGs are collecting money through illegal activities like sand mining, liquor sales, gambling clubs, and belt shops. He alleged that police officers are collecting these funds and handing them over to MLAs. “DIGs are acting like Mafia dons, and their teams CIs, DSPs, and others are working like an army to collect money,” Jagan said.
He also stated that in every constituency, permission for any business or local activity is being given only after bribes are paid through police channels, all under the control of ruling party MLAs.
These remarks come as a shock, especially because Jagan, during his tenure as Chief Minister, used to praise the police department, calling it “people-friendly” and highlighting their performance through initiatives like Spandana. He had earlier claimed that police under his rule solved more complaints from opposition party workers than his own party’s supporters.
Now, Jagan allegations on top officers has drawn backlash. Many see these comments as disrespectful to the police force and as a reflection of political frustration.
The police department has not officially responded yet, but strong reactions are expected to follow.
