Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that India will soon turn a USD 5 trillion economy by 2025, India has overtaken Japan by becoming the world’s 4th largest economy.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh shared the news on X writing: “India overtakes Japan, Becomes World’s 4th Largest Economy: A rapid stride, a giant leap – towards $ViksitBharat! Thanks PM @narendramodi for making this happen.” Yesterday, during the NITI Aayog meeting its CEO BVR Subrahmanyam briefed the mediapersons regarding the country’s achievement.

“It is only US, China, Germany, which are larger than India and if we stick to what is being planned and what is being thought through, in 2.5-3 years, we will be the third largest economy.”

“We are the fourth largest economy as I speak. We are a $4 trillion economy as I speak,” he added.

He said that the overall geopolitical and economic environment is favourable to India. Citing IMF data, Subrahmanyam said India today is larger than Japan.

Following the news, Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan heaped praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efficient leadership. “Under Modi’s leadership, the ‘Maha Yagya’ for building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ continues unabated. Earlier, we were in the 11th position, but under PM Modi’s leadership, we moved ahead to achieve 5th position. Now, we are in fourth position. Soon, we will be on the third, and ultimately, we will be number one.” India was the fifth largest economy in the world till 2024.
