The Supreme Court has questioned the bail given to former YSRCP leader and ex-MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi by the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The state government approached the Supreme Court, saying the High Court granted bail without hearing their side or considering important ground-level reports and details.
Taking this seriously, the Supreme Court asked how bail could be given without hearing the government’s arguments. It then cancelled the earlier bail order and directed the High Court to review the case again. The High Court has been asked to listen to the government’s version and give a fresh decision within a month.
The Supreme Court clarified that it is not making any judgment about whether Vamsi is guilty. But it said courts must look at the seriousness of the charges, the background of the accused, and the full facts before granting bail.
Vamsi had been in jail for nearly seven months with six cases against him. He got bail in five of them earlier. The High Court gave him bail in the last case, related to fake house site documents. The government challenged this, saying such a serious case cannot be taken lightly.
