In South Indian politics, legacy and family influence often play a major role. This holds true for both YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Nara Lokesh, two key figures in Andhra Pradesh politics.

At a recent event focused on students, Nara Lokesh was asked a compelling question: what made him step into politics when he already had a prestigious education from Stanford University?

Lokesh shared a personal story that took place in 2005, a time when his father, Chandrababu Naidu, had just lost the election.

“We were at a function in Hyderabad with around 5,000 people. The moment Chandrababu Garu walked in, everyone stood up out of respect. That moment stayed with me. I thought, if I could earn even a part of that kind of respect, it would be worth entering politics,” Lokesh said.

He added that the motivation to serve and gain respect through meaningful work led him to choose a political path.

During the event, Lokesh also made a thoughtful announcement aimed at students. Starting next year, educational advertisements will highlight top-performing students from various exams. This move is designed to inspire more students to aim high and take pride in their academic achievements.

Lokesh’s journey shows how one powerful moment can spark a lifelong commitment and how leadership can be rooted in both legacy and genuine purpose.
