Road safety and awareness is one of the most crucial enforcement when it comes to saving lives from fatal accidents. Using a good quality helmet and following traffic rules is of great importance when it comes to maintaining road manners. This is the reason why the traffic police department usually enforce significant fines for detractors.
However, the Andhra Pradesh government enforced a bit too strict regulations with regard to traffic policing. The traffic police department enforced hefty fines on drivers and the same came to effect on March 1.
Driving without helmet- Rs 1000.
Driving without license- Rs 5,000.
No vehicle insurance – Rs 2000.
Triple driving / Overspeed- Rs 1000.
Minor driving – Rs 1000.
Using mobile phone while driving – Rs 1500.
Rash driving/ Racing – Rs 5000.
These hefty fines are enforced to ensure that the common public follow the traffic regulations without fail which would in turn ensure road manners and subsequent curb in accidents and fatalities.
However, considering the nature of the heavy fines that are in effect, this could very well trigger, a public outrage very soon. There’s a growing commotion amongst the public that the government must instruct the traffic police department to be a bit more lenient when it comes to fines, considering that the majority of the common public can’t afford to bear such hefty fines.
A common observer opined that asserting such massive fines could trigger public backlash rather quickly and could very well backfire on the NDA government. Notably, even the YS Jagan government enforced such hefty fines for a few days before the election but eventually slowed down after fearing public outrage. Now, the NDA government is taking the same path but they must be more watchful of it.
