The BJP finally realised the dream of capturing the nation’s capital of Delhi in the recent assembly election. The BJP returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, having won a clear majority of 44 out of 70 seats in the Assembly election.
While the electoral process was a fairly straightforward one, BJP found it a bit tough to fixate on the chief minister candidate. After a lot of contemplation and varied thinking, it is communicated that Rekha Gupta is going to be the next CM of the state.
The interesting point to be noted here is that Rekha is a first time MLA and she happens to be the daughter of a common bank employee who worked with the State Bank of India. She was a student level leader earlier before becoming a counsellor early in her political career.
It must be noted that Rekha Gupta getting appointed as the chief minister of Delhi is remarkable Tail as she went from being a commoner to holding the top legislative position in the national capital.
On the other hand, we have Parvesh Verma, who himself created significant legacy for himself by defeating Arvind Kejriwal. He had a heroic run in the recent assembly election by defeating Kejriwal from the New Delhi assembly constituency.
For the longer period of time, everyone expected Parvesh Verma to be rewarded with the chief minister post for his markable feat in the recent election. But the BJP threw a major bump ball and in a way, surprised everyone by picking female candidate Rekha Gupta as the CM and confining Parvesh to Deputy CM position.
Parvez Verma also comes from a rich political heritage family as he is the son of Sahib Singh Varma, who had earlier served as the chief minister of Delhi himself. So he has virtually every box ticked to be the CM, but the BJP high command clearly had other ideas.
As per the announcement from the BJP high command, Rekha Gupta is going to be the new Chief Minister of Delhi, while Parvesh is going to be the new Deputy Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, the stage is set for the swearing in of Rekha as the CM and Parvesh as the DCM in a grand ceremony today. Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu is also attending this ceremony and he has already arrived in Delhi where he is scheduled to meet Union bigwigs and discuss AP’s prospects briefly.
