The highly infamous Karur stampede incident involving Tamil superstar, Thalapathy Vijay is one of the most significant political developments in South Indian politics in recent times. This fateful incident claimed the lives of 41 individuals and brought a lot of backlash on Vijay.
In this collection, Madras High Court largely criticised Vijay for his poorly planned public rally. The court clearly stated that Vijay and his party were very reckless in handling the whole scenario, and it is the public that had to face the consequences.
However, in what could be considered a much needed reprieve to Vijay and his party workers, the Supreme Court had a contradicting stand on this matter.
Today, the Supreme Court questioned the Tamil Nadu government for granting the permission to Vijay’s TVK for holding a roadshow rally in Karur on September 27 in the first place. It was further established by the Supreme Court that the state government had earlier denied permission to AIADMK for a similar meeting, but somehow granted permission for Vijay’s meeting.
The Supreme Court today was of the opinion that the government is also to be blamed for what had happened. This is in contrast to the High Court stand where the fault was entirely rubbed on Vijay and his party. So this latest statements from the Supreme Court must come as a relief to the Vijay-led party.
