Senior YSRCP leader Botsa Satyanarayana made some striking comments on the much-talked-about Rushikonda palace project. Responding to questions on theh parts of the Rushikonda building were already showing damage, Botsa shot back asking, “Why no action taken on contractor”, “Who paid the contractor in the first place?”

He went on to say that the government seems unsure about what to do with the massive complex and added a tongue-in-cheek suggestion that it could even be given out as a wedding destination. He underlined that his remark was only free advice but hinted at how public assets are often mishandled. Botsa also questioned whether creating wealth simply meant handing over medical colleges and other institutions to private parties, suggesting that this is not real development.

Meanwhile, leaders from the NDA have been sharply critical of the Rushikonda project. Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan slammed the spending of over Rs 450 crore on the unfinished complex, calling it a heavy burden on the state when the earlier Haritha Resorts were generating steady income. He pointed out that the new buildings already show defects, with plaster peeling and high maintenance costs. CM Chandrababu Naidu also inspected the site and remarked that it looked more like a king’s palace built with taxpayers’ money, with luxuries such as imported marble, bathtubs, and chandeliers.

With criticism mounting, the state government has set up a Group of Ministers to decide the future of the Rushikonda buildings. The panel is expected to come up with recommendations soon on how to make use of the controversial complex.
