It is already known that a recent report highlighting the steep rise in alcohol-related cases in Andhra Pradesh between 2019 and 2024 (during the YCP tenure) has drawn significant public attention. It was clearly stated that many people suffered from kidney, liver, and brain complications due to the poor quality of liquor supplied during this period.

One particularly infamous incident occurred in 2022, shedding light on the peak of contaminated liquor distribution under the previous government.

This tragic event took place in the Jangareddygudem area of Eluru district, where as many as 22 people lost their lives after consuming contaminated liquor. Despite the severity of the incident, which happened when the YCP was in power and the liquor scam was reportedly at its peak, no proper investigation was conducted by the then government.

However, the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has now taken concrete steps regarding this matter. A special task force has been appointed to investigate the individual cases linked to these liquor-related deaths.

Eluru SP Kishore will be leading the investigation, and more facts are expected to come to light in due course. This is being treated as a “need of the hour” investigation.

If it is proven that the contaminated liquor supplied during the YCP regime was the direct cause of these deaths, it will further strengthen the case surrounding the AP liquor scam.
