The BJP made a clean sweep in the national capital, Delhi, winning 48 of the total 70 seats in the state. Considering the polls prestigious, the BJP campaigned heavily and even took the help of the allies to influence the electorate.

With the TDP being an important ally of the BJP-led NDA government, the party supremo and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also campaigned for the BJP. Surprisingly, Naidu’s electioneering helped the BJP win in the Shahdara constituency, nearly after 32 years.

Chandrababu Naidu campaigned in Shahdara constituency, along with other places. He urged the electorate to cast their votes for BJP candidate Sanjay Goyal in Shahdara. On February 8, when counting for the votes polled in Delhi was held, Goyal was declared winner from the constituency.

The BJP won the seat in 1993, for the first time, when Ramnivas Goyal contested as the party candidate. In the 1998, 2003, 2008 elections, the Congress won the constituency and in 2013, Shiromani Akali Dal emerged victorious. In 2015 and 2020 polls, AAP candidates won from the constituency.

During his campaign, BJP candidate Sanjay Goyal said that the AAP candidate was busy distributing liquor but he would address people’s problems. Goyal said he would look into the grievances of Andhraites living in his constituency consulting Chandrababu Naidu, as he knows their needs and mind better than him.
