There is no debating the fact that YSR Congress is facing existential crisis in Andhra Pradesh after the harrowing defeat in the 2024 election. Several senior leaders, including Alla Nani, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, and most significantly, Vijay Sai Reddy have left the party.
Amidst this highly worrisome exodus, something positive has happened for Jagan and his party with the addition of a new member to their arsenal. Congress senior leader and ex cabinet minister in erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, Sailajanath has joined YCP in the presence of Jagan today.
The former minister arrived at the Tadepalli residence of Jagan and he met with him a short while back. Jagan formally welcomed SailajaNath into YSR Congress and wished him the best for the journey ahead.
Sailajanath hails from the reserved Singanamala constituency and he will certainly be hoping to contest this seat in the coming election.
Another point that can be noted here is that this Congress senior has been staying away from the party after YS Sharmila took charge as the APCC president. It was a rumour that he was not comfortable with Sharmila getting promoted to such a high rank while several seniors are on sidelines.
However, Sailajanath doesn’t quite have the same impetus now as he used to back in the YSR period. His public command has gone down over the years. But nevertheless, something is better than nothing and Jagan can certainly make use of his experience now, particularly while his own party seniors are consistently deserting him.
