Clean comedy has become a rarity in Telugu cinema lately. Many movies released these days feature cringe-worthy, sleazy scenes in the name of comedy. The trend has changed and it is evident. The only thing filmmakers should make sure is to not cross the limits and make these “comedy” films uncomfortable to watch.

Vishwak Sen’s recent release Laila is the perfect example of a sleazy and cheap-comedy film which was disguised as a comedy entertainer. However, audiences rejected it outrightly and made the film a disaster at the box office.

On the other side, there is MAD Square, which is making its cringe and foolish comedy presentable with exceptional performances from actors. The teaser of MAD Square was released few days ago got good response.

Though it didn’t feature any sleazy comedy scenes like Laila, many comedy punchlines were cringe. However, the way talented actors like Sangeeth Shoban and Vishnu Oi delivered them made these comedy lines work well with the audience.

MAD’s comedy is cringe but it never crosses the limits. That is the reason why it is working well with the viewers and the teaser got a terrific response from the viewers. The same is the case with last year’s release Tillu Square.

Comedy has changed in Telugu cinema and probably, we may not see clean comedy entertainers in the future. Audiences are getting attracted to the comedy that is delivered in films like DJ Tillu and MAD. But it shouldn’t cross the limits. If it does, the result will be like Laila.
