Generally, we see Telugu actors limit themselves to doing larger-than-life characters in the films and don’t dare experiment with their choices. They might experiment during the early stages of their careers but not once they attain stardom.
In a recent interview, producer Allu Aravind was asked whether the range of an actor shrinks once he attains stardom. Allu Aravind agreed with the statement by saying, “Actually so,” and cited a recent conversation with his son Allu Arjun as an example.
He said, “I was discussing with my son regarding his plans after Pushpa 2. I was discussing whether he can do softer roles like a younger brother in a bigger family who sacrifices something for his family. He told me that currently, he is confused but asked me to bring such a good story that he probably may dare to do it.
If you make a native and rooted film, it will work all over India. But if you aim for a pan-India film and incorporate various elements into it, that will spoil everything.
Allu Aravind said that currently, everyone is confused about making relatively softer films with star actors because no one knows how audiences receive them. “Audiences surprise us. We can’t predict them,” he said.
Allu Aravind said that a film like Aaradhana didn’t work in Telugu because audiences couldn’t accept Chiranjeevi in such a role. However, he added that the same audiences received well when Chiranjeevi played a softer role in Annayya.
