Released earlier this month as a Dussehra treat, Kantara Chapter 1 hit the screens amid huge expectations. However, the initial hype that built during its making slightly dropped before release, and the film received a decent response on the first day. This led to doubts about whether it could hold strong at the box office. But director and lead actor Rishab Shetty proved everyone wrong as the film has surpassed expectations and is performing exceptionally well.

Audiences across India have embraced the film wholeheartedly. In Kannada, Kantara Chapter 1 has shattered all previous box office records, even surpassing the earlier all-time highest grossing Kantara. It has also collected impressive numbers in Telugu and Hindi markets. Instead of slowing down after the first ten days, the film continues to maintain its grip in the third week as well, despite facing stiff competition from Diwali releases.

As per the makers, the film has crossed the 700 crore mark worldwide. According to the makers, Kantara Chapter 1 has grossed 717 crore so far which is an outstanding achievement by any standard.

Now, all eyes are on whether Kantara Chapter 1 can become the highest grossing Indian film of the year. Currently, that record is held by the Bollywood film Chhaava, which collected around 800 crore earlier this year. Saiyaara stands second with around 600 crore, a milestone Kantara Chapter 1 has already surpassed.

How much the film earns over the Diwali weekend will determine its final tally. With no other major releases expected for the next two and a half months, Kantara Chapter 1 only has a strong chance to overtake Chhaava and claim the top spot. Whether it can achieve this record or not remains to be seen.
