Allu Arjun was supposed to work in the direction of Venu Sriram for the film Icon. However, Allu Arjun quit the project but grabbed the Icon Star tag for himself. Now, Allu Arjun has no thoughts of coming back to the project, resulting in Venu Sriram going ahead with a new actor for this film, loosely on the lines of Motorcycle Dairies.
Dil Raju is the producer of the project who is now occupied with Venu Sriram’s Tammudu. The director-producer plan to revive Icon with a different lead actor. According to Venu, the script is very much alive, and they’re scouting for a suitable hero who matches the story’s tone.
After the massive transformation in Bunny’s image following the success of Pushpa, Dil Raju said the Icon script now feels “too small” for Allu Arjun’s current pan-India stature. And thus, though the actor didn’t reject the story, he chose to step away from it.
However, if Bunny feels the story is no longer in line with his image, it’s unlikely that any top-tier star would want to touch it either. Someone like Ram Pothineni, Siddu Jonnalagadda, or even someone from the younger wave — who might take the leap without worrying about comparisons.
Whether Icon finally sees the light of day depends on that one actor who sees potential in the story. If Venu and Dil Raju find the right fit and market it right, the film might still click — not with star power, but with content.
