Mass Raja Ravi Teja has always tasted his biggest success when he sticks to mass entertainers that suit his image. Yet every now and then, he tries to take up performance-based roles to prove his versatility. While his intent is genuine, those experiments rarely click with the audience. From Naa Autograph to Eagle, most of his different attempts have not worked well at the box office.
Now he is returning with a complete mass film titled Mass Jathara. Interestingly, the Telugu hit Sir, which marked Tamil actor Dhanush’s debut in Telugu cinema, was first written for Ravi Teja. Director Venky Atluri had him in mind while developing the story. But due to Ravi Teja’s busy schedule, he could not take it up, and Venky eventually went ahead with Dhanush.
Ravi Teja, however, did not regret missing the project. He reportedly said that Dhanush was the perfect choice and that he would suit the role even better. Even after the film’s release, Ravi Teja maintained that if he had done it, the movie might not have turned out as well.
When Venky narrated the story, Ravi Teja liked it but told him he was occupied with other commitments. He even suggested that if there was another option, Venky should go ahead. Later, when Venky informed him that Dhanush would be doing it, Ravi Teja was happy and encouraged the decision, saying Dhanush would nail the role.
In a recent interview with Ravi Teja, Venky Atluri, and Mass Jathara director Bhanu Bhogavarapu, this topic came up again. Venky said he still felt Ravi Teja would have added a different energy to Sir, but Ravi Teja responded that Dhanush was indeed the right fit and delivered it better than he could have.
That humble attitude once again showed why Ravi Teja remains not only the Mass Raja on screen but also a grounded and positive person off screen.
