The theatre shutdown controversy is not coming to an end. After producer Allu Aravind addressed the media yesterday, Dil Raju held a press meet today. Speaking with the media, Dil Raju clarified the entire issue. He also confirmed that it is okay that Pawan is upset, but they will soon meet and tender an apology.
Dil Raju clarified misconceptions surrounding theatre ownership in the Nizam region. He stated, “Out of the 370 single-screen theatres in Nizam, SVC and my own companies collectively operate only 30. The rest are mostly run by independent owners and their associates.”
Explaining the reason for the press meet, he said, “There are a few questions that need clear answers, and we didn’t want the real issue to be sidetracked by controversy. Exhibitors are currently facing challenges with the existing rent and percentage system. In April, a few exhibitors and distributors from East Godavari brought these concerns to us. We understand the financial strain they’re under. For the past six months, we’ve been tracking collections. They expressed that a fixed percentage system might be better.”
“At present, the model we follow is rent for the first week if collections are strong, and a shift to percentage-based payments from the second week onward when revenues drop. This has been tough on the exhibitors, and we acknowledge that. Discussions are ongoing, but we haven’t reached a final resolution yet. The fact is that there is no unity among us, which is why producers are individually seeking ticket price hikes. We will find a solution.”
He also addressed speculation around the film Hari Hara Veeramallu, saying, “Around the same time, the release date for Hari Hara Veeramallu was announced, but it was later postponed for various reasons. A new date wasn’t locked. However, there is no truth in the speculation that Hari Hara Veeramallu is being targeted.”
Criticizing media narratives, Dil Raju added, “Certain sections of the media are irresponsibly writing about ‘Aa Naluguru’ without basis. These are personal attacks, and that’s why we’re offering this clarity. Please understand the facts.”
