While South Indian films are exploring different genres and pan-India subjects, Bollywood seems to be stuck in the age-old romantic comedy concept. Barring Chhavaa and Saiyaara, Bollywood doesn’t have another solid hit this year. Now, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer “Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari” looks like yet another routine romantic comedy outing from the Hindi film industry.
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, this movie features Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf in other main roles. Karan Johar is bankrolling the project under Dharma Productions. The film is slated for worldwide release on October 2, and the trailer of the movie was unveiled today.
The trailer showcases Sunny (Varun Dhawan) and Tulsi Kumari (Janhvi Kapoor), heartbroken after their respective exes Ananya (Sanya Malhotra) and Vikram (Rohit Saraf), decide to break up with them and marry each other. To break their exes’ wedding, Sunny and Tulsi plot a fake relationship, which leads to confusion, comedy, and many more dramatic situations.
Going by the trailer, the film looks like a template Bollywood rom-com. It remains to be seen if the current generation of audiences is ready to accept this film and also if it can revive the sinking careers of Varun and Janhvi.
Both Varun and Janhvi have been going through rough patches in their respective careers for quite some time. Varun hasn’t scored a hit since the 2022 film Bhediya. On the other side, Janhvi doesn’t have a single theatrical hit barring Devara. So, it remains to be seen if she finally gets a theatrical hit in Bollywood this year with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.
