While Indian cinema is struggling to survive at the box office due to the advent of OTT platforms, lack of fresh stories, and the absence of exciting big-star films, Hollywood films are thriving in the Indian market. Over the past three weeks, a new Hollywood film has been released each week, and all three have emerged as box office blockbusters, dominating the domestic box office.
On June 27, the Brad Pitt-starrer F1 hit the screens and opened to a unanimously positive response from the audience. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, this sports drama collected more than Rs. 67 crores at the box office in three weeks and is still going strong in many metro cities across the country. Overall, F1 collected around $400 million across the world.
On July 4, Jurassic World: Rebirth was released. Dinosaurs have always been money-spinners at the box office, and this movie proved the statement once again. Starring noted actors like Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, Jurassic World collected around Rs. 73 crores at the Indian box office.
One of the popular superhero franchises, Superman, came up with its fresh installment last Friday (July 11). This James Gunn directorial opened big in India and collected more than Rs. 25.50 crore in the country over the first weekend.
These three films have been dominating the box office over the last few weeks by collecting a cumulative total of around Rs. 166 crores. None of the Indian releases that came out in the last three weeks managed to impress the audience. Thus, people are opting for these Hollywood biggies over local films.
