While this summer turned out to be a dull phase for the Indian film industry, Hollywood films ruled the domestic box office with multiple hits. While they were Brad Pitt’s F1 and Jurassic World: Rebirth witnessed sensational theatrical runs in June and July.
Both these films have earned more than Rs. 100 crores in India, which has become a rarity for Hollywood films in recent times. While everyone expected DC’s highly anticipated Superman to rule the box office, it underperformed compared to F1 and Jurassic World: Rebirth.
Released on June 27, F1 received unanimous positive talk from the audience and has been continuing its dream run for almost a month. Many screens in India are still reporting housefuls on weekends.
Jurassic World: Rebirth was released on July 4 and received terrific openings, thanks to the legacy of the dinosaur franchise. Kids and nostalgic adults lapped up the film with great reception, which made the movie join the 100 crore club.
Superman, which was released on July 12, opened to mixed talk and was able to earn around Rs. 55-60 crores in two weeks.
This week, Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four is gearing up for release, and it has to be seen if it can manage to stop F1 and Jurassic World’s dominance at the box office.
