The Telugu Exhibitors Association had earlier announced a shutdown of theatres from June 1st. However, after intense discussions among multiple stakeholders, the strike has officially been called off / postponed for now. The Telugu Film Chamber took the initiative and convened a meeting with distributors and producers to amicably resolve the ongoing issues while keeping theatres operational.
The Chamber first met with nearly 40 distributors from both Telugu states in the morning. Later in the evening, a second round of meetings was held with prominent Telugu producers. A majority of the distributors and producers expressed the view that a strike would not benefit the industry at this point.
They collectively decided to address their concerns without shutting down theatres, ensuring that movie screenings continue without disruption. This decision is rooted in past experiences. During previous disputes—such as those involving QUBE charges and remuneration issues, shoots were halted which caused major disruptions across the industry.
To avoid repeating such setbacks, stakeholders have chosen to pursue solutions while theatres remain open. With factors like the ongoing IPL season, OTT releases, and piracy already impacting footfalls, closing theatres now would only further alienate audiences.
With several films lined up for release starting May 30th, the industry is focused on ensuring uninterrupted screening and audience engagement.
