Mythology is a genre that could instantly hook all sections of the audiences. A film titled Ramayana is currently being made in Hindi, in the direction of Nitish Tiwari. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Sriram in the film. The film is scheduled for release during Diwali 2026. However, director Rajamouli is also aiming a film on similar concept with different elements.
While Nitish’s Ramayana is a direct adaptation of Valmiki’s Ramayana, Rajamouli is going to depict a particular scene from Ramayana and blend it with other elements in his movie Varanasi. The film is aimed for a grand release for Summer 2027.
Now, when two films are in the offing, it is sure that there will be comparisons at all levels. Rajamouli may face a big challenge in impressing the audience with visuals that go beyond Ramayana, which is also being made on a huge budget.
Despite the trust that Rajamouli will not disappoint the audiences, the film Varanasi, dealing with multiple elements, might be a concern, in comparison with Ramayana.
As Rajamouli mentioned, he will direct only one part of Ramayana. Let’s see how Varanasi shapes up, but that key part of Ramayana will surely be the heart of Varanasi, with Mahesh Babu playing Lord Sriram. While Varanasi blends Kali Yug and Treta Yug, the time travel element will surely make things exciting.
