Writers are often underappreciated in Telugu cinema, especially in the current age. Among them, writers of dubbed films are even more underappreciated and unrecognised in our industry. After Vennelakanti, no other writer was able to receive the huge recognition for dubbed films. The top one on the list will be Rakendu Mouli.

Rakendu Mouli is the son of Vennelakanti. Rakendu is a dialogue writer, lyricist, actor and singer. He was the one who penned dialogues for recent dubbed films like Khaidi, Animal, Satyam Sundaram and the recent blockbuster, Mahavatar Narasimha. He has penned dialogues for upcoming biggies Coolie and War 2 as well. Despite working on such big films and making them reach wider audiences in Telugu, Rakendu Mouli still goes unrecognised.

If we take the example of Mahavatar Narasimha, it is well known how challenging it is to pen Telugu dialogues for a dubbed mythological film based on one of Lord Vishnu’s avatars. Rakendu Mouli did a fantastic job with the Telugu version. He played a crucial role in making the dialogues both accessible to the common audience and sound like authentic, literary Telugu. However, he was reportedly not invited to the recent Telugu success meet of the film. It is heard that he was also left out of the Telugu press meet of Coolie a few days ago.

It is high time that an established writer like Rakendu Mouli gets the recognition he deserves. One can only hope that filmmakers and producers begin to acknowledge the contributions of dialogue writers like him. Not just Rakendu, but every dialogue writer and lyricist who plays a key role in a film’s success deserves to be credited and celebrated.
