Silambarasan TR, popularly known as Simbu, is wasting no time regrouping after the underwhelming response to Thug Life, his recent release co-starring Kamal Haasan. Despite the film’s disappointing critical and commercial performance, Simbu has a packed slate and now, a new surprise addition.
Sources confirm that the Maanaadu star is in advanced talks to headline an upcoming gangster drama helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Vetrimaaran. The project is set in North Chennai and is expected to hit the floors by the end of June or early July. The yet-to-be-titled film will be produced by veteran Kalaipuli S. Thanu, with an official announcement expected soon. The collaboration is being pitched as a quick, gritty feature that Vetrimaaran intends to complete before commencing his long-delayed Vaadivaasal with Suriya, which remains firmly on track for a November start.
Meanwhile, Simbu is also gearing up for multiple major ventures. Up next is a film directed by Parking Fame Ramkumar Balakrishnan, with Kayadu Lohar set to play the female lead and Santhanam in a pivotal role. Following that, the actor will headline a large-scale project directed by Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal filmmaker Desingu Periyasamy. This film will mark Simbu’s debut as a producer under his own banner.
Another upcoming project is a commercial entertainer backed by AGS Productions and directed by Dragon helmer Ashwath Marimuthu. Adding to the buzz, speculation continues to swirl about a possible collaboration between Simbu and Mani Ratnam, with Rukmini Vasanth reportedly being considered as the female lead. For now, all eyes are on the Vetrimaaran collaboration, an announcement is just days away.
