The Hindi film industry has been in crisis over the last few years, as only a handful of films are doing well at the box office every calendar year. Big Stars like Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan are delivering consecutive flops. On the other side, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan are coming with one film every two or three years, affecting the market in their own way. As a result, even audiences stopped showing interest in going to theatres and are preferring to watch films on OTT platforms.
However, it looks like star heroes realised that they need to promote their films aggressively by getting on the ground to pull people to theatres. Gone are the days in Bollywood where stars attend press meets and people flock to theatres on the first day. Thus, Hindi stars are coming on the roads to promote their films these days.
Recently, Akshay Kumar wore a mask and went to a theatre where his latest release, Housefull 5, was being screened. Wearing that mask, he took public opinion from people at a local theatre. Thankfully, most of the time, no one recognised him, and before people realised that it was Akshay Kumar, he left the place. The video went viral on social media, with people lauding Akshay for his efforts. On the other hand, Housefull 5 is doing an average business at the box office, giving little bit hope to the trade parties involved.
On the other side, Aamir Khan is known for promoting his films by getting into public in different ways. He did such kinds of promotions for films like 3 idiots, Ghajini and PK. Recently, he promoted his upcoming film Sitare Zameen Par by selling Vada Pavs on a street in Mumbai. Aamir’s last film, Laal Singh Chaddha, was a super flop, and he is aiming to strike back hard with Sitare Zameen Par, which will hit the screens on June 20.
On the whole, top Bollywood stars are coming on the roads to promote their films, and we wonder what is stopping the younger generation actors from promoting their films aggressively. Hope they learn from Akshay and Aamir.
