The topic of implementing an 8-hour workday in the Bollywood industry has kicked social media discussions. While celebs have different opinions on it, it is still unsure how the industry would implement it.

Meanwhile, during the trailer launch event of the film ‘Maa’, senior female star Kajol expressed support for reduced work hours. “I love the fact that you can work less,” she said but immediately her hubby-actor Ajay Devgn added that many celebs in the industry are beginning to understand and accept such demands, especially for working mothers.

Devgn pointed out that most honest filmmakers wouldn’t have a problem with an eight to nine-hour shift. Meanwhile, his statement has kicked off a row on social media as fans wrote that it could be an indirect dig at Bollywood actresses who are placing restrictions in front of filmmakers for less work say 5-6 hours in a day.

#AjayDevgn on the 8-Hour Shift Demand for New Mothers:“It’s not that things aren’t going well. Honest filmmakers won’t have an issue with it. In fact, many in the industry already follow 8 to 9-hour shifts. Industry understands the need well.” pic.twitter.com/ic4dk3BtVW— FilmShlim (@FilmShlimOfficial) May 29, 2025

Meanwhile Akshay Kumar too has advocated for eight-hour work. Known for his disciplined lifestyle, Akshay believes that after eight hours of work the body gets tired and it’s essential to balance work with rest and family time. He once said his eight hours are equal to 14-15 hours of any other big star and highlighted his efficiency and commitment during those hours of work on the film sets.

The social media is agog for Bollywood actress’ recent departure from a film project. While it did pissed off a few fans on social media, some of them felt that her request would make the industry further healthier in terms of work-life balance, and gender pay parity.
