Amid the pending fraud case against Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, Raj Kundra, who allegedly have defrauded a Juhu businessman out of Rs 30.48 crore, socialite and writer Shobhaa De has recently revealed that Shilpa Shetty’s restaurant earns a whopping Rs 2-3 crore per night in Mumbai.
Shilpa Shetty owns an upscale restaurant Bastian in the financial capital of the country. In a recent interview with Mojo Story, Shobhaa De discussed the heavy amount of money transactions done at the restaurant. “The kind of money in Mumbai is astonishing. There is a restaurant in Mumbai with a turnover of Rs 2-3 crore a night. On a slow night, the turnover is Rs 2 crore and during rush days like weekends it is Rs 3 crore. I went to the restaurant myself to see myself when I heard the numbers.. I said this can’t be true.”
When asked about the restaurant, Shobhaa shared the details and added: “It’s Bastian. It’s the new Bastian. It’s on the top. It is 21,000 sqft. It’s not even reality.” Shobhaa said that on walking into the place, you would feel ‘where am I?’ You have a 360 degree view of the city. With two seatings of 700 diners each, Bastian can accommodate up to 1,4000 guests in one evening, she said.
But they have a waiting list of people waiting downstairs on the road in Dadar, the heartland of old Maharashtrian conservative area in Mumbai. Customers come in Lamborghini and Aston Martin to the restaurant, she said.
Explaining about her experience at the restaurant, Shobhaa said that she was in a state of shock. “I didn’t know a single face in all 700 diners. They were young and ordering bottles and bottles of the best in line tequila for the table. Each table was spending in lakhs.” Shilpa Shetty teamed up with restaurateur Ranjit Bindra in 2019. Since then there has been no looking back. Shilpa Shetty increased her network in the hospitality industry by co-owning many other eateries in India and even half of the Bastian brand.
