Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar warned the pro-Kannada organisations and activists to “Know Their Limits” concerning the Supreme Court’s order to release Kamal Haasan’s film “Thug Life” in Karnataka. DK appealed to all activists to stay calm and adhere to the orders passed by the Supreme Court with due respect. He said that everyone has their limitations and appealed to all pro-Kannada organisations and activists to stay within those limits.
Shivakumar’s statements came in after the Supreme Court passed an order to release “Thug Life” in Karnataka, after it was banned by the pro-Karnataka organisations. The Supreme Court stated that mobs cannot decide what film to release in theatres. It affirmed that once a film passes the Censor Board of Film Certification, it can be released at any screen in the country. Thug Life was banned because pro-Kannada activists were angered over Kamal Haasan’s statement that “Kannada originated from Tamil” during the promotions of this movie.
DK Shivakumar said that people are free to express their views and have a right to protest, but only within legal and constitutional boundaries. He asserted that no one should take the law into their own hands.
Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life was released worldwide on June 5, except in Karnataka. With the Supreme Court’s order, the film is expected to release in Karnataka state soon.
